Today’s college-going population is more diverse than ever, and millions of students each year struggle to pay for college and their basic needs, compromising their health, economic security, and future opportunities. Food pantries and emergency aid were just the start– now higher education needs a cost-effective way to scale holistic student supports and meet basic needs, which starts with the faculty and staff students encounter every day.
Equitable, inclusive colleges and universities require a workforce that centers students as humans first. With limited budgets and tight schedules, professional development must be engaging and efficient.
The #RealCollege curriculum is designed around a few key principles:

We respect teachers.
Faculty and staff are not the problem in higher education – they’re the solution. This curriculum supports the people who support students every day.
We believe in students.
Students are humans first, and supporting their basic needs is key to supporting their learning.
We center adult learners.
The content is a master class that helps participants quickly and efficiently improve their knowledge and skills, which makes them more effective while reducing compassion fatigue and burnout.
We prioritize action.
Creating a higher education system that better serves students is urgent, and will only happen when people do things differently than they are now.
We’re starting in the classroom, but we’re not stopping there.
Changes in the classroom reveal the need for system-wide reform. This curriculum helps that coalition into a powerful force for change.
I thought the material was really well presented, for all levels of prior experience. I have worked in this field for 7 years, thus, I am pretty well-versed. I’m so pleased to know that we now have a standardized curriculum to provide individuals who may be new to the field or simply interested in learning more.
